St John Ambulance First Aid at Leicester High

Our girls recently welcomed St John Ambulance to Leicester High for a series of hands-on workshops designed to give them the confidence and practical skills to know what to do in an emergency.
From first aid and CPR to understanding how to respond calmly when someone needs help, the age-appropriate sessions gave pupils the opportunity to learn skills that could one day make a real difference.
For our older girls, the workshops also explored personal safety and how to respond to more serious emergency situations, including knife-related incidents. Throughout the sessions, the focus was on helping pupils make safe, informed decisions while looking after both themselves and others.
There was plenty of practical learning too. Working through real-life scenarios, the girls were encouraged to stay calm, assess what was happening and think about the steps they could take to help.
At Leicester High, we want our girls to leave us with more than excellent academic results. We want them to have the confidence, independence and practical skills to navigate life beyond school – and opportunities like these form an important part of that preparation.
Annabel Corcoran, Head of PE, said:
“The Young Responders workshop was a fantastic opportunity for our girls to learn practical skills that they might not ordinarily encounter in the classroom.
“We want our pupils to feel confident and prepared for life beyond LHS. Whether they are with family or friends, or simply find themselves in a situation where somebody needs help, they now have a better understanding of what to do and the confidence to respond.”
