Leicester High School for Girls was delighted to welcome Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools to a STEM Masterclass at the beginning of June.
Held on a Saturday morning, the session gave pupils the opportunity to take part in a range of practical activities designed to spark curiosity and build confidence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
During the masterclass, pupils explored the scale and vastness of space, using mathematics to help understand the distances and sizes involved. They also designed, built and launched their own rockets, putting their problem-solving skills to the test and working together to bring their ideas to life.
There was a real sense of excitement throughout the morning, with the girls enjoying the opportunity to learn alongside pupils from other local schools and discover new interests through hands-on activities.
At break time, everyone enjoyed refreshments, including fruit, chocolate brownie and juice, before returning for more STEM challenges.
At the end of the session, each participant received a certificate to celebrate her achievements. Many were eager to share their certificates with their families and talk about everything they had learned.
One pupil said: "I really enjoyed learning about space and finding out how big the universe is. Building and launching my rocket was my favourite part of the morning."
Families interested in future opportunities are encouraged to look out for details of upcoming masterclasses. STEM activities will also feature as part of Leicester High School for Girls' Summer Activity Camp programme.
