Student Publication Success

We are delighted to share that Zahra has had an article published in The Penrose Magazine, an academic magazine that showcases high-quality student writing and research.
Zahra’s article, “Tidal Heating in Icy Moons: A New Order,” explores how gravitational forces can generate heat within moons orbiting giant planets, challenging traditional ideas about where life might exist beyond Earth. Focusing on moons such as Io, Europa and Enceladus, Zahra explains how tidal heating can maintain volcanic activity or subsurface oceans, even at vast distances from the Sun.
Her work highlights how this process reshapes our understanding of habitable environments, suggesting that the potential for life depends not only on distance from a star, but on energy generated through gravitational interactions. Drawing on real examples from our solar system, the article demonstrates how physics and astronomy continue to push the boundaries of space exploration and astrobiology.
This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to Zahra’s curiosity, academic ability and passion for space science. Congratulations to Zahra on this well-deserved publication.
