University Fair visit at Leicester Tigers

Our Year 12 students recently visited a university fair at Leicester Tigers, giving them a fantastic opportunity to explore the many different possibilities available to them after Sixth Form.
The girls met representatives from a wide range of universities, including Russell Group institutions, and were able to ask questions, pick up prospectuses and find out more about different courses, entry requirements and routes into higher education.
They also attended a number of seminars covering university life, the application process and different career pathways. There was particular interest in Medicine, with students keen to learn more about the different routes into the profession and what they can be doing now to prepare for future applications.
This focus on ambitious future pathways reflects the direction our Sixth Form will take from next academic year through WISE – Women in Science & Enterprise. WISE will place an even greater emphasis on areas including science, technology, medicine and enterprise, alongside individual support to help every student explore the university, career or degree apprenticeship pathway that is right for her.
Mark Ryman-Tubb, Head of Sixth Form, said: “Sixth Form is about much more than achieving excellent A-level results. We want our students to understand the opportunities available to them and have the confidence and experience to pursue their ambitions. As we move towards WISE from next year, opportunities like this will become an increasingly important part of how we prepare our students for university, degree apprenticeships and their future careers.”
Events like this are an important part of helping our students begin to shape their own plans for the future. Whether they already know the path they want to follow or are still exploring their options, speaking directly to universities, asking questions and discovering new possibilities can make a real difference.
And, of course, no university fair would be complete without returning with a healthy collection of prospectuses – and a few university tote bags!
A really useful and enjoyable day for Year 12, with plenty of ideas and inspiration to bring back to LHS as they start thinking about life beyond school.
