British Fusion Festival Commemorates VE Day

Leicester High School for Girls marked VE Day with a joyful British Fusion Festival and Spring Fair, celebrating the rich diversity of modern Britain through music, dance and poetry.
The Junior Department delivered a vibrant programme, beginning with a wartime medley by Years 1 to 5 in honour of VE Day. This was followed by a Chinese Dragon Dance, a heartfelt rendition of ‘Sing a Rainbow’, and an English country dance by Year 1 and 2 ballerinas.
Year 1 and 2 also performed a traditional Maypole dance, while Year 4’s Bollywood number and Year 3’s Mandarin song ‘Jasmine Flower’ showcased international traditions. The event closed with the uplifting ‘One and a Million’, sung by all Junior pupils, and a colourful Holi dance, leading into the school’s lively Spring Fair.
The festival was followed by a lively Spring Fair, featuring stalls, games, and displays of pupils’ artwork, enjoyed by families and friends.
Sophie Neuberg, Teacher of Year 1, who organised the event, said:
“It was a joy to see the girls celebrate both British heritage and the many cultures that make up our community. The performances were full of heart and energy—such a meaningful way to mark VE Day.”
The festival highlighted the school’s celebration of unity, culture and community.
